Flow wrapper knives work in a fast, repetitive cutting cycle where a small mismatch in tooth form, blade alignment or edge strength can quickly show up as torn film, incomplete cuts or unstable pack length. LIJIAN manufactures replacement flow wrapper knives and HFFS packaging machine blades from drawings, used samples or machine references.

Our practical view is that a flow pack blade should not be selected by outside dimensions alone. The film structure, sealing jaw layout, cutting speed and product contamination around the knife all affect performance. A blade that fits the holder but pulls laminated film is not a correct replacement.

Flow Wrapper Knife Types

  • Straight tooth knives: for clean cross cutting where the film separates easily and low marking is important.
  • Diagonal tooth knives: for a progressive cutting action that can reduce peak cutting force.
  • Zigzag and serrated knives: for films and laminates that need more bite during high-speed cutting.
  • Knives with tear notches: for packs that require a controlled opening feature.
  • Knife and anvil sets: supplied when the cutting pair needs to be matched for clearance and contact.

Applications And Packaging Materials

These HFFS knives are commonly used on horizontal flow wrappers for bakery products, snack foods, dairy items, convenience foods, fresh produce and other individually wrapped products. Depending on the line, the blade may cut PE, PP, laminated film, metallised film or paper-based packaging material.

What We Check Before Manufacturing

  • Overall length, width and thickness
  • Mounting holes, slots and datum positions
  • Tooth pitch, tooth angle and serration direction
  • Bevel direction and cutting edge geometry
  • Knife-to-anvil relationship and expected clearance
  • Film type, line speed and the current cutting problem

For repeat orders, hole position and tooth consistency matter as much as sharpness. If operators have to adjust the jaw after every blade change, the replacement batch is not sufficiently repeatable.

Material, Coating And Edge Decisions

Stainless steel is often selected for food packaging environments where corrosion resistance and cleaning are important. Tool steel or high-speed steel may be considered when wear resistance is the main issue. A coating can help with film residue or adhesive build-up, but we only recommend it when it addresses a real line condition. It cannot correct a poor tooth form or incorrect blade pressure.

Common Problems On HFFS Lines

  • Film tears instead of separating: check tooth wear, tooth pitch, blade pressure and film tension.
  • Some packs cut and others remain connected: check jaw parallelism, knife straightness and anvil condition.
  • White or rough laminate edges: the blade geometry may be too aggressive or the edge may already be worn.
  • Short blade life: review steel grade, hardness, edge strength, contamination and machine alignment together.
  • Residue builds up on the knife: review surface finish, coating, cleaning interval and product contact.

Information To Send For A Replacement Quote

Please send a dimensioned drawing if available. Otherwise, provide clear photos of both sides of the used blade, the machine brand and model, the material being cut, required quantity and a short description of the current problem. Tooth details should be photographed close enough to measure the pitch and profile.

FAQ

Can LIJIAN manufacture a flow wrapper knife from a used sample?

Yes. A sample can be used when no drawing is available, but the sample should not be badly bent or worn at the mounting holes. We may ask for machine and film details before confirming the tooth form.

Do you supply straight, diagonal and zigzag tooth forms?

Yes. The tooth form is selected according to the original design and the material being cut. We do not treat one serration pattern as suitable for every HFFS line.

Can the knife be supplied with an anvil?

Where the application uses a matched cutting pair, the knife and corresponding anvil can be reviewed together. Dimensions and working clearance must be confirmed before production.
